Murder Mystery 2 Wiki

The Duping Glitch of 2017 was an alarming major tragedy that consisted of players duplicating items by using alt accounts to transfer them. This was unintended in every way, and Nikilis stepped in and fixed this glitch.

How it started[]

Origin:[]

It was unintentionally discovered by people who used alts to transfer items they wanted to trade to others. This was a very popular method to gain skins in 2016, but it became more publicly known in late 2017.

What happened:[]

Once this was discovered, the word spread fast and soon items were being duplicated. Many people quit MM2, due to their value being lost. Many people felt upset due to this happening and soon the people who could dupe had what they called the "Power."

"The Value Drop Year"[]

After the trading servers and trading itself were temporarily closed, there was a time period where people who regularly traded on MM2 just left. There was a big fear of being banned if you had an inventory of over 100 knives, therefore, people desperately tried to remove their items to not get banned. This was happening during May of 2018.

Targeted Items[]

Corrupt was the main target for dupers. The JD Knife was targeted. The Heart Pet was targeted. Many godlies, such as Sugar, were targeted—in short, any valued items (as of 2017) were targeted.

Victims[]

  • Active traders: (Lost their value)
  • People who had Corrupt: (Lost a ton of value)
  • People with inventories of 100+: (Unintentionally Banned)
  • Dupers: (Banned)
  • Nikilis: (Got a ton of negative reviews and comments)

Solution[]

  • Nikilis temporarily ended the duping glitch by shutting down trading.
  • Trading servers in places such as mm2values were shut down to prevent trading.
  • Players, such as Slouse, collected duped items to return to Nikilis for its permanent deletion.
  • Many players that used this glitch were banned.

Aftermath[]

The glitch is now gone, and many targeted Tier 1 godlies have regained much lost value. More new items have been added to satisfy people with the value being fixed again. Some high demand duped items, such as Corrupt, have regained a lot of the value lost because of the ban of dupers, added the fact that the possession of 20+ Corrupt knifes could result in an immediate ban. Unfortunately, other low-demand items, like Handsaw, have dropped in value since then and have yet to regain their value.

Notes and trivia[]

  • This was the second tragedy of MM2 History.
  • The Glitch Knife came out during the Halloween Event of 2018, so any duplicated Batwings would turn into the Glitch knife.
  • It can be inferred that items that were not duped (low value weapons) became comparatively more rare than Godlies.
