Christmas Event 2023

The Christmas Event 2023 was an event that began on December 20th, 2023, and ended on February 2nd, 2024. Upon joining Murder Mystery 2, players would be greeted with the new Christmas-themed lobby designed by Zyleak. The voting room represented a toy train set, which looped around the lobby. Shiftlock on mobile was also added during this event.

The game-mode called "Freeze Tag" was also added in the Murder Mystery 2 Christmas 2023 Update. This game-mode had 2 jobs. Freezer and Runner. The point of this game-mode is that if you were a Freezer, you would Freeze all the Runners in the time you had. If not every Runner was tagged in time, they won! This was a new game mode that later left April 1st, 2024 officially. No maps have had Freeze Tag Imbedded into the game since.

A new variant of Snow Tokens was added. They emitted fire, and were rarer tokens that could be collected during rounds. Collecting them would add 3 Snow Tokens to the Coin Bag.

Battle Pass

The Battle Pass during this event consisted of 20 tiers, all of which, with the exception of the first tier and the 20th tier, cost 800 snow tokens. The first tier was free, and the final tier could be purchased for a total of 98,000 snow tokens in exchange for the ancient gun Gingerscope.

Mystery Box

During the event, there was a new Mystery Box available to be opened called the 2023 Christmas Box. To open it, players would need to turn in 800 Snow Tokens or 1 Snow Key .

During the event, the new map Ski Lodge was introduced, that was designed by Zyleak. Four old maps from previous Christmas events made a return, those being Workshop, Log Cabin, Train Station and Ice Castle.

Freeze Tag

Additionally, a new gamemode was added: Freeze Tag. In a round, there would be 2 roles—Runner and Freezer. Freezers would be selected based on the size of the server. Freezers could stab with their knives to freeze runners, while runners could unfreeze their teammates. The round ended when all runners were frozen, or when time runs out. Freeze Tag rounds were indicated by a text on a random map during voting. However, although the Christmas Event ended on February 2nd, 2024, the gamemode lasted as of March 28th, 2024.

Exchange

In the shop, players were given the option to exchange 100 Snow Tokens for 100 coins . However, coins could not be exchanged for snow tokens. Players could do this as many times as they wished.

Evo Weapon

The Gingerscythe Gamepass was the annual limited-time offer for the event. The gamepass costed 1,699 Robux, and contained the Evo knife Gingerscythe. Upon purchasing the gamepass, the evo initially started as a rare knife, but as the player gained XP, it evolved into a higher rarity. For example, the rare variant would evolve into the legendary variant, and the legendary variant would then evolve into the godly variant. However, once purchased, it cannot be traded to other players.

Gifting Center

The gifting center was where Gifts could be purchased for 800 Snow Tokens . These Gifts could only be opened by other players. Inside the Gift was a random item from any Mystery Box. Giving 100 Gifts would reward the player with Evergun—this could be done multiple times. There was also a very small chance of receiving a rarer counterpart: Chroma Evergun.

Every annual Christmas event from the 2019 Christmas Event onward had two separate leaderboards; one for Token-Collecting and one for Gift-Giving . Purchasing snow tokens did not count towards the Token-Collecting leaderboard, meaning that players could only obtain such snow tokens by collecting them during rounds. The leaderboard was paused for Christmas and resumed on 26 December 2023, similar to the scenario in 2022 Christmas Event.

Trivia

• This is the 9th annual Christmas event to occur.
• This is the 5th time the gifting centre was brought back into the game.
• This event marks the first time a variant of Snow Tokens awards more tokens, similar to "Super Candies", from Halloween Event 2019.
• This event is the first Christmas event to include a new gamemode, not limited to one map additionally.
• In this event the coin bag limit was extended from 40 to 50 Snow Tokens for players who did not own the Elite Gamepass.
• Running for 45 days, this was one of the longest events in MM2 history and the second-longest Christmas event, surpassed only by Christmas 2017.
• It was later removed and later succeeded by the Easter Event 2024.
